About the artist

Maria Luz (Lisbon, 1999) is a visual artist from Portugal investigating the loneliness of everyday city life. Her work portrays the pursuit of beauty in abandoned objects and places, using light and colour as a door to landscapes of nostalgia. She works essentially with painting and film photography.

She has participated in many art exhibitions in Portugal and won the Young Art Prize 2022 by Millennium BCP and Carpe Diem. In 2021 she finished her Bachelor’s degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, after leaving the bachelor’s of Industrial Design at ESAD.CR. Maria Luz has been exhibiting her artwork regularly since 2017, collaborating with other artists on various projects. Additionally, she has participated in several international projects, namely the Cedofeita Townhouse project for Architectural Digest magazine (Germany, Italy, and Mexico) and the RESONANCE exhibition for Art Basel in Paris.

In 2026, she was selected for the 24th Cerveira International Art Biennial (BIAC), which will take place between July and December.
