Drawing on a familial tale of buried money, alongside frescoes encountered during a scholarship in Florence, Megan Rea’s fragmented paintings merge personal myth with historical imagery. Building surfaces from her pulped sketchbooks, Rea excavates her paintings, carving through layers that are built, buried and worn away. The surface becomes a site of concealment and discovery, where fragments emerge and disappear, evoking the erosion of memory and the traces left behind.

About the artistMegan Rea (b. 1993) holds an MA in Fine Art from City and Guilds of London Art School and a BA in Fine Art from Edinburgh College of Art.
Her solo exhibitions include ‘The Hands That Feed’ at Stellar Highway (New York, 2024), ‘The Calling’ at Arusha Gallery (Edinburgh, 2024) and ‘The Bricks That Build the Houses’ at Copeland Park (London, 2020). She has also exhibited with Soup Gallery (London, 2025), at Depot Art Fair (Oxford, 2025) and in the RSA New Contemporaries (2017).
